6 Essential Safety Products for When Your Baby Starts to Crawl

6 Essential Safety Products for When Your Baby Starts to Crawl

Most babies start learning to crawl when they're between 7 and 10 months old, but it's wise to start baby-proofing your home long before then. Some parents even opt to put all the necessary safety features in place before their child is born, as things can get a little hectic once they've arrived.

However, don't worry if you haven't started baby-proofing your home yet. The six baby safety products below aren't hard to install but will make all the difference.

1. Self-Closing Outlet Covers

Since most power outlets are close to the ground, it's really important to make sure that they're covered and can't be accessed by little fingers. For outlets that you use regularly, self-closing outlet covers are ideal.

They'll automatically slide shut when you remove a plug, so you won't need to remember to push in a traditional plug protector. Electric shocks can cause serious injuries, including burns, brain damage, and even death -- so it pays to be safe.

2. Finger Pinch Guards

Worried about your baby trapping their fingers in a door while exploring? This is a very real fear, and it can be hard to remember to use doorstops or other solutions.

Finger pinch guards are clever pieces of u-shaped foam that slide onto the top or side of doors and will prevent doors from slamming shut. This protects your child's fingers and stops them from accidentally getting trapped in a room. They're affordable and easy to slide on and remove, so there's no reason not to use them.

3. Drawer and Cabinet Latches

Your baby is an inquisitive little thing, and will probably be keen to get into any drawers, cupboards or cabinets that are low enough for them to reach.

Protect them from dangerous household chemicals, medicines, and sharp utensils by attaching drawer and cabinet latches. Magnetic latches are a good option and are easily opened using a key. Around 70% of non-fatal poisonings involve children ages 1 to 2, so don't take any risks with your child's safety.

4. Anti-Tip Furniture Straps

As babies get bigger, they may start attempting to climb furniture, or trying to pull themselves up using whatever's nearby. If you have any furniture that's not securely attached to a wall, now is the time to address this.

Anti-tip furniture straps aren't hard to install but will prevent your child from being injured by a falling item of furniture. Most are adjustable and come with multiple fixings, making them suitable for everything from drawers to bookshelves.

5. Safety Gates

Did you know that every six minutes, a child under five falls down the stairs? That's right -- and this shocking statistic demonstrates just how important safety gates are for your baby.

Even if you live in a home without stairs, safety gates are an excellent way to limit your child's access to areas that could be dangerous, giving them room to explore within safe parameters. Most gates are designed to be operated with one hand, making them easy to use even if you've got your hands full.

6. Door Knob Covers

Your little one could be attempting to open doors to closed off rooms sooner than you think, and door knob covers are a great way to thwart their efforts.

Whether there's a room that's unsafe or just a space that you want to keep child-free, door knob covers will ensure that it stays off-limits. This simple plastic device fits standard door knobs and requires you to reach through the holes in the cover and squeeze firmly to open the door.

The sooner you have a completely baby-proof house, the more comfortable you'll feel letting your child explore. Prevent needless accidents by investing in premium quality child safety products early on.

What our customers are saying:

" Great Quality. These are the perfect solution to my toddler slamming doors in our house. This is the 2nd pack I've ordered, they are durable, don't stretch out and actually stay on the door without sliding down or falling off. Easy to slip right on the door when needed! Thank you for making such a great product! It has saved many tears from falling in our home! " ~ Ashley

" Awesome. My 10 month old granddaughter has been too interested in the electrical outlets, so I ordered these for their home. The outlet covers are awesome since she is safe, and we don't need to worry if we remembered to plug in the plastic outlet plugs when the outlet is empty. I would recommend to anyone with a little child. " ~ Teresa
